After a month working on this website with the help of a graphics designer to aid Canadians to buy from Canadian companies that use Canadian manufacturing, using flyers, I felt it was time for a change in gears.
This forum is meant to be a place for us to share what successes we've had, and brainstorm about how we can help spread the movement, and how we can make it easier for people to buy Canadian, or even lightly pressure companies to pull American products off the shelves, source Canadian/International alternatives, and much much more.
I doubt I'm alone in feeling like I need to do more to help my fellow Canadian, to help us stay independent/free. For me, simply buying Canadian personally isn't enough. This isn't a fight the government can do alone. We all vote with our wallets every day. We all support people based on our personal purchases.
Currently I've been VERY interested in some of the Buy Canadian apps. Using the efforts of the masses, scanning barcodes and adding products to the apps we can help highlight Canadian companies, highlight what's American, so that the general consumer can just pull out their phone, scan the barcode, and easily within seconds know how Canadian what their product is, and be suggested alternatives when it's not Canadian at all or supporting Canadians.
Specifically I find the best apps by far are the Buy Beaver App, and the Check my Label App. Each has it's own strengths and weaknesses which I'll outline in the next post, because in my opinion spreading the knowledge of how useful they are, and helping them to be MORE accurate or contain MORE groceries seems worthwhile to me.
Welcome to the forum, and I'd love to hear your ideas on how to help Canadians get their hands on Canadian products, and steer them away from American products to International products when there just isn't a reasonable alternative made locally.
Treat others with respect, acknowledge others efforts rather than be overly critical about how they play a part in supporting Canada. Try not to over politicize your posts since there are going to be people from all walks of life here, both left and right wing. Try to keep things on topic, which is to buy Canadian, to help others buy Canadian, and ideas of how to enact real world change in this movement.
